The LAG Golfo di Castellammare
The Local Action Group (LAG) of Golfo di Castellammare (Castellammare Gulf) was established in 2010 as a limited company consortium. It is composed of municipalities, economic stakeholders, associations and professional organizations.
The territory of LAG covers an area of 327,66 kmq and has 116.266 of inhabitants (until the 31.12.2007). It includes municipalities of Alcamo, Balestrate, Borgetto, Cinisi, Partinico, Terrasini, Trappeto.
The LAG task is to implement the Local Development Plan (LDP), funded by Sicilian Region in the framework of the 2007/2013 Sicily LDP, which foresees three action axes:
• creating a network and promoting rural supply with a turist purpose;
• including all the territory in the turist economy by building small infrastructures and identifying itineraries designed to develop a turist demand in favour of the rural territory;
• supporting farm enterprises, favouring short production chains and the diversification of traditional farm activities.To this end and whereas possible, we tried to match the organization of the event with the existing local celebrations or public perfomances. The opening day, for example, was held in conjunction with the Carnival inCinisi. The choice of the event in Cinisi as inaugural moment is not accidental, but it is guided by the recognition of the strong connection between Carnival and the Contradanza, which has been and still is the official dance of the Carnival festivals in some areas of the island.

THE MISSION
Municipalities partners of LAG Golfo di Castellammare (Alcamo, Balestrate, Borgetto, Cinisi, Partinico, Terrasini andTrappeto) are territories where History has soldered landscapes with practices, food traditions and folklore.
The LAG works in these places, connecting right management and valorization of the local resources to an effective will of growth and leading social and economic past towards future with a great benefit for local occupation.
The LAG believes that promotion and tourist valorization of a territory is one of the few ways to take all peculiarities of a rural context, all stakeholders expectations and all landscape, cultural and architectural local resources into account. As a consequence, the LAG implements a number ofactions and activities aiming at creating concrete opportunities for the economic growth of local systems in a long-term prospect.
Concretely speaking, it intends valorizing rural tourism, by implementing marketing actions proper to reach distant tourist/visitor through a communication approach apt to improve reputation of the territory.
For this reason managing territorial organization and the consequent information activity though media beyond LAG borders are crucial element for the LAG.
Lastly, from a rural marketing and management of attractions point of view, it is necessary to valorize territorial resources of the LAG and to offer them to a larger and larger group of users, making the LAG area a “place of experience” which is recognizable, different and attractive.
This is a main topic for sustainability of the process of local development.
